…then perhaps you shouldn’t be allowed to have one.
My puppers and I were on our evening walk and a gorgeous (and giant) Husky came flying up to us out of nowhere.
Said Husky did not seem to have an owner in sight. He ran around us in circles for a second and then kept on his own personal puppers walkabout.
I started to walk away, honestly, because the dog looked like he had purpose, like he was going back to his home. But me being me, my puppers and I turned around and went after him.
We found him roaming about behind the complex, getting a little too close to the woods for my taste. I whistled and snapped my fingers and he came running.
License. Check. Rabies tag. Check. Tag to tell me his name and who he belongs to? That’s a negatory. So now that I’ve decided that this random dog is going to have to come home with me, I’m trying to figure out how to make him truly follow me since he wants to do his own thing.
I could unleash my dog and leash him. My dog being the way she is, that would work because she doesn’t run off. At least not from me. Plus she loves big dogs.
As I’m making this decision a random red car is slowly making its’ way through the parking lot and I hear a woman shout “Max”. Poor name choices aside I wave and holler that he was over with me. Instead of turning down my row, she just sits there.
Max hauls ass away from everyone. I walk up to the car and I point her in the right direction.
Puppers and I go about our way back to the apartment.
Well, apparently the bitch can’t be bothered to get out of her car to search for her own damn dog. She and the idiot in the car with her, track me down on the other side of the complex. She says they didn’t find him. I explain again which direction I saw him headed. The guy in the car says, “next time just go ahead and grab him, he’s friendly”
I say, “sure, ok” and they drove off.
What I should have said was:
"You stupid drunk fucks, if you aren’t going to take care of your animal then you don’t deserve to have him. Damn straight I’ll grab him if I see him out again. Then you’ll never see him again, because I’ll keep him for my own…you lazy useless pieces of shit"
Unfortunately, this will be the third dog in the last two years that I have had to attempt to take home because the owners were so lackadaisical with their care. The other two, god help them I found wandering alone on sidewalks on busy streets. One the owner came looking for within 15 minutes which I GUESS is something. The other, the dog was blind, deaf, dying, and the owners just left their front door wide open, so when I returned the dog, I had to shut their front door for them.
Is it any wonder that I prefer the company of my Puppers to people at this point?
